NDCS press release:

Rosie Eggleston, Participation Manager at the National Deaf Children鈥檚 Society, said:

鈥淐ongratulations to Rose and Giovanni for topping the leader board with a perfect score on Strictly Come Dancing this week. Rose’s story has really captured the public鈥檚 imagination, as the huge upswing in interest in British Sign Language shows.

鈥淩ose鈥檚 success should help dispel some of the common misconceptions about deaf people and music. Her performances show that deaf people appreciate and enjoy music every bit as much as hearing people.

鈥淲e also applaud the Strictly team for their efforts to make the experience accessible for Rose. They鈥檝e enabled her to compete on an equal footing with the other contestants and this means she can excel in the competition.

鈥淲e鈥檙e all rooting for Rose and Giovanni and hope they go all the way to lift the Glitterball Trophy.鈥

Deaf young person, Holly, 18, a member of the National Deaf Children鈥檚 Society鈥檚 Young People鈥檚 Advisory Board, added: 鈥淚t’s great to see inclusivity in TV shows and it may inspire a budding Deaf dancer to pursue becoming a professional dancer.鈥
