Teacher of the Deaf – Leicester City Council

Full Time / Term Time / 32.5 Hours Per Week / Permanent

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or a Qualified Teacher willing to train as a Teacher of the Deaf, to join our friendly, supportive team. If you are interested in working with deaf children and young people, their families, settings, schools and colleges across the city to promote inclusion to achieve positive outcomes for deaf children and young people aged 0-25 this is a fantastic opportunity to work as part of the Hearing Support Team.

Deafness can impact greatly on all aspects of a child’s development and skills, their language, learning, social, emotional well-being and mental health. As a service we offer different levels of support to help develop all of these areas of the Preparing for Adulthood curriculum so deaf children and young people of Leicester City make progress and live independent lives.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be required to travel to various sites across the city such as homes, settings and schools to support deaf children and young people and provide advice and training where needed.

As a confident and caring teacher, you will be responsible for a caseload of children and young people. Using excellent interpersonal skills, you’ll work closely with other professionals and voluntary agencies, to promote and support the successful inclusion of deaf children and young people into a variety of settings.

What you’ll need

You’ll have recent experience of working with children and young people with SEND and/or deafness. Using your expertise, you will be able to advise families and teaching staff on effective strategies for inclusion, provide training to staff within schools and work in partnership with the NHS Paediatric Audiologists and other professionals. With the ability to work both as part of team and independently, you’ll be able to manage your own workload, work under pressure and respond positively to potentially challenging situations.

You will hold QTS with a DfE number and complete an enhanced DBS check.
