Newham Deaf Support Service, has an established team of peripatetic Qualified Teachers of Deaf Children and Young People, and an Audiology Technician, who work with deaf children and young people from birth to 25. We work with families in the home, with settings, schools and colleges to promote effective inclusion.

This is an amazing opportunity for an ambitious, well-qualified, dynamic and outstanding teacher who is driven towards raising standards and is committed to providing a quality service, which ensures deaf/ or those who are hard of hearing are fully included in all aspects of education and family life and have the opportunity to become confident and independent learners.
Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work with our experienced peripatetic team, holding a caseload that will span all ages and stages across the 0-25 remit. There will be opportunities also to consider what passions, experience and skill set you can bring to the team in terms of leadership or oversight for key areas within our team.

We are seeking a Qualified ToD.
You will be:
• An energetic, enthusiastic and forward thinking Qualified Teacher of Deaf Children & Young People/Special Needs Teacher with experience of SEN and disability, and inclusion into all educational settings;
• Confident with planning and delivering a package of support, advice and ongoing intervention for all C&YP with a deafness/who are deaf and their families;
• Experience in acoustic environmental assessments, audiological diagnostic testing including balancing equipment, speech discrimination assessing and equipment troubleshooting
• Able to plan and deliver training to a high standard, to a range of audiences;
• Able to support, challenge, motivate and inspire families, colleagues, teachers, support staff, and other professionals;
• A good communicator, skilled in building relationships with families, other professionals and school staff;
• Monitor and track pupil progress and the effectiveness of intervention programmes with regard to pupil outcomes.

The successful candidate would ideally:
• Be a qualified Teacher as defined by the DFES
• Have a recognised Qualified Teacher of Deaf Children & Young People qualification
• Have experience of working with referrals of all ages and stages, their settings and their families
• Have the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals
• Be able to oversee and advise on the use of audiological equipment used by children
• Have a BSL signing qualification L2 or equivalent
• Be able to demonstrate good interpersonal skills
• Be proficient in written English
• Aware of recent changes to SEND legislation
• Have enthusiasm and energy and above all, a sense of humour!
